What Drives Your U.S. Price

Plant size & block count

PEM cost scales with megawatts. Plug's model is "add containers," so a 50 MW plant is roughly 50× the stack hardware plus shared water, compression, and interconnection.

Electricity price & duty cycle

Power is the dominant lifetime cost. PEM's fast ramp lets you chase cheap renewable hours, but low utilization spreads the hardware cost over fewer kilograms.

Incentives

Federal clean-hydrogen production credits (45V) and investment credits (48E), plus state programs, can materially lower effective net cost — confirm current eligibility.

Stack life, catalysts & service

PEM uses platinum-group catalysts and membranes that degrade over time. Stack replacement and long-term service contracts are part of total cost of ownership, not just the sticker price.
