Bloom's flagship electrolyzer splits steam rather than liquid water, using the same solid-oxide fuel-cell technology behind its Energy Servers. Running hot pushes electrical efficiency well above low-temperature PEM and alkaline systems.

Solid-oxide runs on steam, so the surrounding kit differs from cold-water electrolyzers: you need a heat/steam source, high-purity feedwater, and downstream drying, storage, and compression.

What Drives Your U.S. Price

Do you have heat or steam

Bloom's edge is efficiency when free process heat or steam is available. With it, energy cost per kg drops sharply; without it, you pay to raise steam and the advantage narrows.

Plant size & block count

Cost scales with megawatts. Bloom's model is "add blocks," so a 50 MW plant is roughly 50× the block hardware plus shared steam, water, and interconnection.

Incentives

Federal clean-hydrogen production credits (45V) and investment credits (48E), plus state programs, can materially lower effective net cost — confirm current eligibility.

Service & stack life

Solid-oxide stacks degrade over time and are periodically refreshed. Long-term service and stack-replacement contracts are part of total cost of ownership, not just the sticker price.
